RATINGS

95James Suckling

A firm, silky red with currant, plum and berry character. Medium body, round and polished tannins and a flavorful finish...delicious red with great texture and balance. Fantastic wine.

94Jeb Dunnuck

...darker notes of blueberries, damp earth, lavender, and violets...beautiful fruit on the palate and is medium to full-bodied, with terrific density and depth, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's a rounded, balanced, complete wine...

92Wine Enthusiast

The aromas bring immediate appeal, with notes of dried herb, barrel spice and black fruit. Rich but well-balanced fruit flavors follow along with a lengthy finish. It has a nice yum factor.

90Stephen Tanzer

...offering aromas of plum, currant, mocha, spices and dried flowers. Plusher and finer-grained on the palate, with its brisk boysenberry and blueberry flavors complemented by soil-inflected notes of earth, wild herbs and dried flowers... Finishes with tongue-dusting tannins, a slight herbal dryness and very good length.

REGION

United States, Washington, Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley AVA is larger than some states. At 18,000 square miles, or 11 million acres, the appellation covers almost half of Washington State and a small part of Oregon on the south side of the Columbia River. Established in 1984, Columbia Valley contains numerous sub appellations within its boundaries, including Yakima Valley AVA and Walla Walla AVA, both large and important wine districts. Columbia Valley AVA, generally called the Columbia Basin by Pacific Northwesterners, is in the Columbia River Plateau, and the AVA also includes a section of northeastern Oregon. There are dozens of microclimates within this appellation of about 7,000 vineyard acres. Many kinds of grapes are grown in the Columbia Valley, though the principal grapes planted are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Eastern Washington experiences very hot summers and cold winters, and the northern latitude means that Washington vineyards receive several more hours of sun in the summer than California vineyards. Grapes in Washington therefore have time to develop significant tannins and overall ripeness.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
