RATINGS

95James Suckling

Intense graphite adds lots of lead-pencil character to the blackberries and blueberries. Full body and chewy tannins. Sandalwood and cedar come through, together with some dark chocolate, nutmeg and clove. Flavorful finish.

95+ Jeb Dunnuck

...vibrant, pure style in its blue and black fruits, sappy herbs, sagebrush, lead pencil, and rocky minerality...beautiful on the palate...vibrant, concentrated style, good acidity, and a focused texture...

94Wine Spectator

..very polished style, with creamy cassis and plum puree flavors forming the core. Sassafras, bay leaf and loam notes stay in the background. Ends with a well-integrated gravel-tinged finish.

94+ Vinous / IWC

...understated, classy and super-polished. Graphite, black cherry, menthol, licorice and grilled herbs come together in a nuanced, beautifully expressive Cabernet...range of dark fruit, graphite, espresso, licorice, graphite, lavender and spice...

92-94The Wine Advocate

...notes of crushed redcurrants, kirsch and cassis plus hints of mossy bark, pencil lead and beef drippings with a touch of tobacco. Firm, grainy and fresh, the medium-bodied palate packs in a lot of red and black fruit layers with loads of earthy nuances and a solid backbone of grainy tannins, finishing long with an herbal lift.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Coombsville

Coombsville AVA is one of Napa Valley’s newer appellations, having received its official designation only in 2011. Tucked just to the northeast of Los Carneros and a few minutes’ drive east of downtown Napa, the Coombsville appellation is relatively large at a total of 11,000 acres. The elevation varies from 100 to 1,000 feet, and the climate is moderated by marine breezes from the San Pablo Bay. The main grape varieties here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Syrah and Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
