RATINGS

95Stephen Tanzer

Highly nuanced, expressive nose combines strawberry, raspberry, minerals, lavender, chocolate, underbrush and fennel. Superconcentrated, silky and sweet in the mouth but with superb definition and energy.

94-96+ The Wine Advocate

Boasting a nose of dark fruits intermingled with roasting spices, bacon, licorice, tar, and red cherries, this powerful wine is rich, deeply concentrated, and intense. Loads of flesh, muscle, and broad layers of blackberries...

93Wine Spectator

A big red, round and sappy, offering black cherry, kirsch and sweet spice aromas and flavors. It picks up some chocolate and smoke midpalate, with the richness and exuberant fruit of the vintage.

93Burghound.com

An expressive and extremely ripe black fruit and plum suffused nose is nuanced by hints of torrefaction, earth and coffee are followed by supple, delicious, round and textured full-bodied flavors that are underpinned by firm tannins...

18Jancis Robinson

Lots of energy and savour on the nose. Extremely fleshy already with the tannins well hidden, only just perceptible. This wine expands in the mouth and has a lovely fluidity...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Morey-St.-Denis, Clos de Tart

Clos de Tart is a Grand Cru vineyard in the Morey St.-Denis appellation of Burgundy. During the Middle Ages it was owned by Cistercian monks, but it was sold at auction after the French Revolution. In 1932 the 18.6 acre vineyard was bought by the negociant Mommessin, which today owns the entirety of the vineyard and runs it as a monopoly. Vineyards are planted to north to south, which is unusual, which is partly to help guard against erosion. The soil is stony with some clay.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
