RATINGS

95Wine Spectator

Deep, rich and spicy...evokes a pleasant earthiness underlying the cherry and strawberry fruit. Firm tannins uphold the long aftertaste, while overall there is harmony and complexity. Fresh, juicy finish.

94The Wine Advocate

...excellent...bouquet of ripe cherries, wild berries and bergamot, complemented by savory bass notes of mossy forest floor, espresso roast and grilled squab...full-bodied...with excellent amplitude and dimension, fine-grained but firm structuring tannins and a penetrating, mineral finish.

93+ John Gilman

...bouquet is deep, pure and refined, offering up scents of cherries, red currants, bonfire, venison, coffee, a complex base of soil tones, cedar and a fine, spicy topnote...full-bodied, focused and very soil-driven in personality, with a rock solid core, ripe, seamless tannins and perfect balance on the long and nascently complex finish.

91Vinous / IWC

...hints of smoky bacon crisps bedeviling the red fruit underneath...medium-bodied with supple tannin...shows fine harmony and persistence, a spicy residue lingering in the mouth.

18Jancis Robinson

...red-fruited...with an attractively dusty overlay... Chewy, fresh and just a touch spicy on the long finish.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton, Le Corton

Corton is a Grand Cru vineyard for red wine within the Corton appellation. It is a long, slender, stony limestone site that wraps part way around the top slopes of Montagne de Corton, a hill that reaches to 1,150 feet. The 234-acre vineyard primarily faces south, west and east, and is sheltered by a windbreak of trees while also receiving excellent exposure to sun. Corton is the Cote de Beaune’s only red Grand Cru. The largest producers are Louis Latour, with 37.5 acres; Hospices de Beaune, with 16 acres; and D'Ardhuy, with 11.85 acres. The names of smaller vineyards within Corton are frequently added to the names of Corton wines, resulting in names such as Corton Les Renardes, Corton Les Chaumes, Corton les Perrieres, etc.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
