RATINGS

94Wine Spectator

Elegantly styled, rich and creamy, with a pure mix of dark berry, licorice, cedary oak, mocha and dried herb. A mix of grace, finesse and density, ending with a dash of espresso.

91Vinous / IWC

Black cherry, plum, mint and new leather are some of the signatures. Hints of raspberry jam, pomegranate and blood orange add shades of complexity.

PRODUCER

Revana

Revana Family Vineyard is in St. Helena, in Napa Valley. The estate was founded in 1997 by Madaiah Revana, a physician with a love of California Cabernet Sauvignon. The 9-acre vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Heidi Barrett was the winemaker in charge of the debut 2001 vintage and Thomas Rivers Brown is winemaker now. Revana makes only one wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and it has already won accolades from wine writers and collectors. In 2010 Wine Spectator named Revana to the #4 spot in its list of 100 Top Wines of 2010.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

St. Helena AVA is at the northern end of Napa Valley just north of Rutherford and south of Calistoga. It is a relatively warm climate thanks to the Mayacamas Mountains on its western edge, which protect it from Pacific Ocean fog. Out of the 9,000 acres in the appellation, some 1,500 are under vine. The principal grapes grown in St. Helena are the Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. St. Helena is considered prime wine producing territory, and it was one of the first important wine producing regions in northern California. The legendary Charles Krug founded his winery just north of the town of St. Helena in 1873, and today the appellation is home to many prestigious producers, including Abreu, Grace Family and Spottswoode.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
