RATINGS

93Wine Spectator

Dark, rich tones of blackberry, black cherry and blueberry mark this plush red. There is enough lift from the acidity on the finish and a light rasp of tannins. Charming and harmonious.

92-94The Wine Advocate

...notes of sweet wild berries, plums, sweet soil tones and smoked meats. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, textural and concentrated, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, penetrating finish.

89-91Vinous / IWC

...clean, delineated bouquet of dark cherry, raspberry and light bergamot aromas, all understated. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins, fine acidity, a slightly creamy texture, moderate depth and a rather conservative finish.

17Jancis Robinson

...cheesy nose and then lots of work. A most unusual wine bursting with life underneath...very ripe fruit – that tingles on the palate.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-St.-Georges, Aux Murgers

Aux Mergers is a 12.2-acre vineyard in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, in Burgundy’s Cote-de-Nuits. It is near the northern boundary of Nuits-Saints-Georges, at an average elevation of 270 meters. The soil is limestone, quite a bit of gravel and some sand. Wine writers note that the wines from these northern Nuits-Saint-Georges vineyards have a hint of Vosne about them, since they are so close to the Vosne-Romanee appellation. Because there are no Grand Cru vineyards in Nuits-Saints-Georges, the appellation’s considerable reputation rests on its excellent Premier Crus.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
