RATINGS

98+ The Wine Advocate

...beautiful expressions of preserved plums, boysenberries, blackcurrant pastilles and wild blueberries with hints of Indian spices, menthol, lilacs and mossy tree bark... Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and well-knit freshness...finishing long and fragrant.

98James Suckling

Spices, such as nutmeg and cinnamon...dried meat and plums with cedar and sandalwood. Full body. Deep and dense in the center palate and a long, long finish... Very polished tannins. Long and ethereal.

95Vinous / IWC

Black cherry, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice, smoke and incense infuse...tons of character...

94Wine Spectator

Bright and expressive, with an extroverted core of loganberry, plum and black cherry fruit racing to the fore, carried by a polished and sleek structure. Reveals a subtle mineral edge through the finish, with alluring black and red tea notes swirling around.

94Jeb Dunnuck

...medium to full body, ripe, present tannins, and solid spine of acidity. Beautiful cassis, green tobacco, graphite, and cedar pencil notes...

17.5+ Jancis Robinson

Dark-fruited and lightly charry to give a savoury/fruit complexity. Extremely pure cassis...remarkably silky, with clarity, precision and length but without excess richness. Deep and long. Amazing balance... Great precision...

REGION

France, Bordeaux, St.-Estephe

Saint-Estèphe is in the northern Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. Although it has no First Growth estates, its five Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Growth châteaux are notable, and, in recent decades, have become favorites with reviewers and consumers. Some reviewers also note that the appellation is today making excellent Cru Bourgeois wines, which frequently offer good value. There are 3,404 acres of vineyards and a variety of soil types, from gravelly soil to soil with significant sand or clay. The two Second Growth Châteaux in St.-Estephe are Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. The Third Growth Calon-Ségur is widely admired. The principal grapes grown are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
