RATINGS

93The Wine Advocate

...gorgeous nose of dried mulberries, kirsch and red currant jelly enhanced by a baking spice undercurrent. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated on the palate, it has a medium to firm level of velvety tannins and enough acid to give lift through the long finish.

92Wine Spectator

Polished, expressive and layered, with violet-tinged blackberry and cherry flavors that show a gloss of meaty, smoky and spicy notes. Offers depth and grace, finishing with a sensation of sweetness and purity.

92Vinous / IWC

Displays powerful smoke- and spice-accented aromas of dark berries, cherry-cola and violet, with a suave vanilla quality in the background. Smooth and expansive on the palate, offering sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors, a touch of smokiness and building floral character. Shows excellent focus and vivacity on the finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins.

17Jancis Robinson

Very sweet palate attack...quite fresh enough on the finish. Really very well assembled... Essence of Barossa. Just the right side of syrupy...

REGION

Australia, South Australia, Barossa Valley

South Australia is the nation’s most important wine region. South Australia is to Australia what California is to the U.S. About half of Australia’s wine comes from South Australia and many of the country’s most acclaimed producers are there. Wineries based in South Australia include Penfolds Grange, Torbreck, Amon Ra, Henschke and Jacob’s Creek. The prestigious Barossa Valley is located in South Australia, and is often compared to Napa Valley because it is gorgeous topography covered in grape vines. First farmed by 19th century German-speakers who immigrated from what is now Poland, the Barossa Valley is the crown jewel of the region. South Australia has widely varying climates, from very hot, dry areas to cooler, high altitude areas. There are more than 150,000 acres of vineyards in South Australia, with more being planted each month. Shiraz is king, though the region also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Chardonnay and Semillon.
