RATINGS

92The Wine Advocate

...offering subtle, broody suggestions of underbrush, grilled meats and tar over a core of black cherries and baked blackberries plus hints of new leather and black truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has great concentration and tension, supported by grainy, well-managed tannins and finishing long and earthy.

91Jeb Dunnuck

...pretty, elegant style...offering medium-bodied notes of white pepper, blueberries, and peppery herbs. With ripe, moderate tannins, beautiful balance, and a clean finish...

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma County, Moon Mountain

Moon Mountain AVA earned its official status as an American Viticultural Area in 2013. The Moon Mountain district is a sub-appellation of Sonoma Valley, and has long been considered a prestigious address for vineyards. At the relatively high level of 400 to 2.700 feet above sea level, the 17,633-acre AVA is on the western slope of the Mayacamas Mountains. About 2,000 acres within the AVA are planted to vineyards. The climate benefits from constant breezes from the bay as well as sunshine, since the area is above the fog line. Grapes grown in the AVA are primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, with some Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

TYPE

Red Wine, Mourvèdre

Fans of Cabernet Sauvignon appreciate Mourvèdre. It’s a full-bodied Spanish native. It is grown prominently in Bandol, France, Paso Robles, CA and many other regions. It is often blended with Grenache and Syrah and can be used to make rosé and port-style wines.
