RATINGS

95Wine Enthusiast

Crushed rock, garrigue, gamy meat and lavender appear and accent an earthy, full-bodied core of silky texture and luscious dark cherry.

93The Wine Advocate

...the aromatics of warm blackberries and blueberries are complemented with lovely notes of pepper, blue flowers, bacon fat, garrigue and mint...medium weight and floods the mouth with concentrated red and blue berry fruits, finely grained and with just enough freshness to lift the finish.

92Wine Spectator

...offers refined currant, smoked meat and crushed stone accents that pick up tension toward medium-grained tannins.

92Jeb Dunnuck

...classic Syrah gaminess and pepperiness. With lots of blackberry fruit, some ground herb, bacon fat, and olive notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness on the palate...

90Vinous / IWC

...bold and dense in the glass, with serious depth and concentration driving the red and purplish berry fruit.

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Sonoma Coast

Sonoma Coast AVA runs from San Pablo Bay in the south to Mendocino County in the north. It includes 7,000 vineyard acres and earned AVA status in 1987. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean means it gets double the rainfall of nearby inland appellations and the ocean gives the appellation a relatively cool climate. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can thrive in these conditions, and there are numerous producers making critically acclaimed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Syrah (Shiraz)

This grape is grown in milder climates and produces a medium-to full-bodied wine. It is also known as Shiraz, but should not be confused with Petit Sirah, which was developed by crossing Syrah with Peloursin.
