RATINGS

96James Suckling

...creamy red with blueberries and currants. Hints of mushrooms and tobacco. Full body. Polished tannins and a flavorful finish.

95+ Jeb Dunnuck

Beautiful Pritchard Hill-like blue fruits dominate the bouquet...rich, full-bodied, and plump on the palate. More violets, spice, and dried herb characteristics, as well as a sense of minerality...this beauty has building structure and loads of character.

93The Wine Advocate

...beautiful nose of lilacs, wilted roses and black cherry compote over a core of cassis and warm blackberries with nuances of licorice and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, the palate bursts with black fruit and spicy sparks, framed by firm, chewy tannins, finishing long and lively.

93Wine Spectator

Violet and savory notes lead the way for a core of plum and blackberry fruit that steadily expands with air, picking up extra blueberry and black currant details. Maintains a racy edge, with a terrific cast iron accent on the finish.

93Vinous / IWC

Concentrated, deep and dense...offers plenty of richness… Blackberry jam, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice, sage and lavender are some of the many intriguing notes that infuse the Stagecoach with tremendous character now.

92Wine Enthusiast

...thick and herbal...richly woven in cigar box, clove and toasted oak. Structured and dusty on the palate in iron and crushed rock, it has a richness of underlying cassis and dark currant...

17Jancis Robinson

...autumnal dried leaves and a note of menthol and tobacco spice...leafy bite on the mid palate and well-integrated firm tannins...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley

Napa Valley AVA is the most famous winemaking region in the United States and one of the most prestigious in the world. With nearly 43,000 acres of vineyards and more than 300 wineries, it is the heart of fine wine production in the United States. Winemaking started in Napa in 1838 when George C. Yount planted grapes and began producing wine commercially. Other winemaking pioneers followed in the late 19th century, including the founders of Charles Krug, Schramsberg, Inglenook and Beaulieu Vineyards. An infestation of phylloxera, an insect that attacks vine roots, and the onset of Prohibition nearly wiped out the nascent Napa wine industry in the early 20th century. But by the late 1950s and early 1960s Robert Mondavi and other visionaries were producing quality wines easily distinguishable from the mass-produced jug wines made in California’s Central Valley. Napa Valley’s AVA was established in 1983, and today there are 16 sub-appellations within the Napa Valley AVA. Many grapes grow well in Napa’s Mediterranean climate, but the region is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon. Chardonnay is also very successfully cultivated, and about 30% of the AVA’s acreage is planted to white grapes, with the majority of those grapes being Chardonnay,
