RATINGS

92The Wine Advocate

...aromas of sweet berries, cassis, plums, dark chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and elegantly muscular, it's nicely balanced, with plenty of boisterous upfront charm...

90-92Vinous / IWC

...nose of red cherries, wild strawberry and light rose petal aromas, all beautifully defined and quite Mugneret-Gibourg in style...medium-bodied palate...finish replete with blackberry and dried blood/ferrous notes.

89-92Burghound.com

...cool, pure and elegant aromas of various dark berries, plum and a touch of freshly turned earth. There is a lovely sense of refinement to the still sleekly muscular and powerful middle weight flavors that possess a sappy mouthfeel on the ever-so-mildly austere, long and serious finale.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Nuits-St.-Georges, Aux Chaignots

Aux Chaignots is a 13-acre Premier Cru vineyard in the Nuits-Saints-Georges appellation, in Burgundy’s Cote-de-Nuits. Because there are no Grand Cru vineyards in Nuits-Saints-Georges, the appellation’s considerable reputation rests on its excellent Premier Crus. Aux Chaignots is in the northern part of the appellation, where the soil is limestone mixed with gravel. Burgundy writer Clive Coates notes that the wines from these northern Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Crus are “rich, full and elegant.”

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
