RATINGS

96The Wine Advocate

...earthy notes of mossy bark, tilled black soil and black truffles over a core of cassis, blueberries and warm plums with touches of menthol and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with blue and black fruits, supported with a firm, grainy backbone and a lively line, finishing with great length and depth.

94Vinous / IWC

...dense, powerful and beautifully resonant in the glass. Inky blue/purplish berry fruit, crème de cassis, menthol, toasty new oak spice and licorice abound...wine's freshness and energy, two qualities that are not easy to achieve...that serve to balance the intensity of the fruit.

93+ Jeb Dunnuck

...straight up classic Napa Valley all the way. Coming from a site north of Saint Helena...seeing an extended élevage of 33 months in barrel... terrific crème de cassis, blueberry, graphite/lead pencil, chocolate, and ample spice...

92James Suckling

Tight and very layered with a powerful and intense center palate. Full body and chewy tannins. Juicy with lots of flavor....

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

St. Helena AVA is at the northern end of Napa Valley just north of Rutherford and south of Calistoga. It is a relatively warm climate thanks to the Mayacamas Mountains on its western edge, which protect it from Pacific Ocean fog. Out of the 9,000 acres in the appellation, some 1,500 are under vine. The principal grapes grown in St. Helena are the Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. St. Helena is considered prime wine producing territory, and it was one of the first important wine producing regions in northern California. The legendary Charles Krug founded his winery just north of the town of St. Helena in 1873, and today the appellation is home to many prestigious producers, including Abreu, Grace Family and Spottswoode.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
