RATINGS

95The Wine Advocate

The palate is medium to full-bodied with very fine tannins and great harmony; this is elegant, hiding its power. It has tremendous freshness.

94Vinous / IWC

Potent black and blue fruit, licorice, espresso and vanilla aromas are complemented by a suave floral topnote. Deeply concentrated cassis, bitter cherry and blackberry flavors take a sweeter turn through the midpalate. Shows impressive vivacity for its heft and finishes extremely long and spicy, with well-knit tannins and repeating florality.

92James Suckling

Super-intense, elderberry character on the nose and a great balance between black fruit and freshness on the bold palate.

18Jancis Robinson

On the nose, it has massive black-fruit expression and beautiful complexity: orange liqueur, Chinese ink, cloves, vanilla and a delicate toast touch. Terrific concentration and intensity but still in shape and balanced. The perfect ripeness of the fruit is notable.

REGION

Spain, Castilla-Leon, Sardon del Duero

Castilla y León, as this region is called in Spanish, is a large region in northeastern Spain that includes nearly twenty percent of Spain’s total land. It encompasses eight provinces and five appellations. The best known of the appellations is Ribera del Duero, though the appellations Toro and Bierzo are also gaining international reputations for fine wine. The region is largely a high, flat plateau and red grapes account for much of what is grown in Ribera del Duero. The other appellations are Rueda, known for white wine, and Cigales. Bierzo is known for the full flavored white wine Godello.
