RATINGS

98Jeb Dunnuck

Loaded with notions of blueberries, dark chocolate, lead pencil, violets and a gravely, earthy minerality, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, thrilling purity of fruit, and building tannin.

97The Wine Advocate

...fragrantly perfumed of red roses, violets and dried leaves with a core of cassis, black plums, Ceylon tea and unsmoked cigars. The muscular, medium to full-bodied palate is densely packed with tight-knit, youthful black fruit and savory layers, sporting a fine-grained backbone and finishing long and perfumed.

95James Suckling

Aromas of raspberries, currants and pine needles. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Chewy yet intense and beautiful.

92+ Vinous / IWC

90Wine Enthusiast

...full-bodied...earthy sage on the nose and palate, an herbal expression within a rich, concentrated grasp of cedar and black licorice. Along the way red currant and cassis come into the picture, adding succulence to the dusty cocoa and mineral.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District

Spring Mountain AVA is above the town of St. Helena on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. There is no actual Spring Mountain, but the name has traditionally been used for the area, which includes many streams and springs. Spring Mountain was awarded appellation status in 1993 and it includes about 1,000 vineyard acres. Vineyard elevations are high, from 400 to 2,600 feet above sea level. Because of the altitude of most vineyards, which are above the fog line, mornings become warm earlier than vineyards on the valley floor, though the afternoons are cooled by maritime winds. The result is an exceptionally long growing season. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most frequently planted grape by acreage, followed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
