RATINGS

98James Suckling

...polished nose of ripe black cherry, blackcurrant jam, cedar, chocolate and some walnut...full-bodied with firm, ultra fine tannins. Creamy texture and great depth of flavor here.

97+ Jeb Dunnuck

...perfumed red and blue fruits, dried flowers, loamy soil, tobacco, and spice emerge on the nose, and this stunning wine is full-bodied, incredibly pure, seamless, and flawlessly balanced.

96Vinous / IWC

Inky dark fruit, gravel, spice, menthol, licorice, lavender and crushed rocks are all finely delineated....stunning wine with all of the tension, power and drive...

95+ The Wine Advocate

...notes of tar, aniseed, Black Forest cake and lavender over an emerging core of blackcurrant pastilles, stewed plums and espresso with a waft of crushed rocks. Full-bodied...palate has a rock-solid foundation of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, supporting the tightly wound black fruit and earthy layers, finishing long with a spicy kick.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena, Las Piedras Vineyard

Las Piedras was first planted in the mid-19th century, and within a few years its grapes were being used to make wine by Henry Amstutz, one of the area’s first important winemakers. The 25-acre vineyard in St. Helena was acquired by Beckstoffer in 1983. Today it is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Beckstoffer Vineyards owns and farms more than 3,600 acres of highly prestigious grape growing vineyards in Napa Valley, Mendocino County and the Red Hills of Lake County. A senior executive with Heublein in the 1960s, Andy Beckstoffer is credited with steering Napa Valley vintners towards improving farming and the quality of the grapes used for wine. Grapes from any Beckstoffer vineyards are considered among the finest available in California.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
