RATINGS

99James Suckling

Love the depth of fruit and intensity...dark fruit and floral undertones, as well as meat, which is very captivating. Full body, purity of fruit and nice, powerful tannins. Chewy and powerful.

93+ The Wine Advocate

...bouquet of plums, cassis, subtle spices and incipient hints of forest floor. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with tangy acids, fine but firm structuring tannins and a long, expansive finish.

93Wine Spectator

...dense, chunky style, packed with cherry, strawberry, currant, earth and tobacco flavors, all backed by beefy tannins. All the elements are in the right proportions...

92Vinous / IWC

...blackberry and raspberry fruit, hints of mulch-like undergrowth and wilted violets...palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, a fine bead of acidity, quite precise and classy towards the finish that shows impressive integration of oak and substance.

90-93Burghound.com

...excellent volume to the relatively refined mouth feel thanks to the dense but fine tannins shaping the youthfully austere, complex and impressively persistent finish.

16Jancis Robinson

Lots of violet perfume on the nose, fine tannic grain on the palate, light intensity, short finish. Easy-going and smoothly balanced but finishes with tart bitterness.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton, Le Corton

Corton is a Grand Cru vineyard for red wine within the Corton appellation. It is a long, slender, stony limestone site that wraps part way around the top slopes of Montagne de Corton, a hill that reaches to 1,150 feet. The 234-acre vineyard primarily faces south, west and east, and is sheltered by a windbreak of trees while also receiving excellent exposure to sun. Corton is the Cote de Beaune’s only red Grand Cru. The largest producers are Louis Latour, with 37.5 acres; Hospices de Beaune, with 16 acres; and D'Ardhuy, with 11.85 acres. The names of smaller vineyards within Corton are frequently added to the names of Corton wines, resulting in names such as Corton Les Renardes, Corton Les Chaumes, Corton les Perrieres, etc.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
