Labels

The condition of the label is often taken into consideration in determining a wine's value. Inspectors at WineBid.com make every effort to describe in detail the conditions of labels by using a number of terms. Below are definitions of terms you may see used to describe the condition of a label.

Excellent

Describes a label that may have a slight, nearly unnoticeable, deficiency.

Bin Scuffed

These labels have been affected by movement while in their original case. The bottles, while moving against barriers in their boxes, sometimes produce vertical lines on their labels.

Nicked

This describes a label that has a small bit of paper lifted up or pushed back from its original position.

Tear

A label with a tear as a noticeable rip. In some cases the entire label remains. Other times a tear refers to a label with missing sections.

Writing

When a label has writing on it that was not originally placed there by the producer, it is noted in the description.

Moldy/Soiled

Wines stored in humid conditions over a long period of time often become moldy. Often a dark gray/green layer of mold is found on such wines. WineBid.com attempts to describe the extent of this damage when writing descriptions of labels.

Lifted Edge

This refers to labels on which a corner is lifted off or folded back.
