RATINGS

95Burghound.com

...powerful and broad-shouldered flavors that possess superb depth of material and knockout complexity on the hugely long finish. This is very serious juice that is most impressive.

92The Wine Advocate

...This is all about texture and richness, as the fruit is very much on the overt side. It will be fascinating to see how the Grands-Echezeaux will develop in the coming years. This finishes with substantial energy and polish...

92Wine Spectator

Shy aromatically, this rich, silky red boasts incisive smoke- and spice-tinged cherry flavors on a harmonious frame. Appealing now, but requires time to reveal its class and depth. Fine length.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Flagey-Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux

Grands-Echezeaux is a Grand Cru vineyard in the southern Cote de Nuits. It is a 23-acre plot and is generally flat with an elevation of 260 meters. The soil is limestone mixed with clay and pebbles. Pinot Noir is grown in the vineyard and the largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, with 8.83 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret, 3.6 acres; and Jean-Pierre Mugneret/Jean-Rene Naudant, 2.25 acres.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
